Beths approach

Beth believes the ultimate goal, true partnership should be based on responsiveness and  lightness without squashing the innate characteristics and potential of the horse.  With all horses and especially young horses the aim is to retain and enhance their level of willingness, ability to learn and be their true self.  Horses are a species that survive by cooperation and learn quickly.   They are an acute observer of body language, both humans and other horses.   That can lead to misunderstandings and sometimes horses struggle to understand our human world.

Beth applies her knowledge of how horses learn to not only teach horses and their riders but also to  ‘fix’  problematic learnt horse behaviour. Coupled with an understanding of what motivates horses this approach leads to happier horses and stronger horse and rider connections.

Case study – the horse that had no forward

Lonnie a young connemara came to me for training  for x weeks.  He had been started well and and is a what type of horse and some other stuff about him.  But he would sometimes explode and buck,  and the bucks seemed to come out of nowhere. The problem was that he had lost forward and some other stuiff about what was going on and how you fixed it.  He then came down to the New forest and we worked through thresholds and committing to forward.  The bucking has stopped.

Felix in the Forest with Ridely

— About Beth—

Beth grew up in the beautiful New Forest surrounded by horses.    Beth competed annually in the Boxing day Point-to-point a traditional race across open heathland on her sweet natured New Forest pony, Jaffa Cake.  Beth understood from an early age that the partnership between horse and rider not only helps keep you safe but allows you to reach your goals, together.

Every horse you ride is an opportunity to learn and grow.  Going back to basics and building from the ground up Beth taught Charlie, her beautiful bold eventer, that pressure is information and not to blow through it.

Beth began training with Sean Coleman (Applied Horsemanship) in 2022,  while studying a Psychology degree.  On graduating in 2024 Beth began a full-time apprenticeship  combining psychology and horse behaviour, when working with horses at liberty, on line, ridden and competition.

Beth now works alongside Sean from the Applied Horsemanship centre in Towcester, Northamptonshire.

” I enjoy training and competing and whilst I want to achieve a high level of performance that is without compromising the horsewoman I  strive to be.”
